Project Description
When a website holds years of educational resources, news, data, and personal stories, a redesign takes more than a fresh coat of paint.
That was the situation for the Jenkins Foundation. The nonprofit shares information about carbon monoxide safety and works to prevent deaths and injuries through education and advocacy. Its website needed an updated look, but the information already on it was too important to leave behind.
A Website with a Lot to Share
The foundation’s website serves several purposes. Someone might visit to learn about carbon monoxide alarms at home, find safety information for travel, explore hotel incident data, or read a family’s personal story.
Kris Hauschildt and the foundation team wanted a website that brought those resources together in an engaging design. They also wanted to be able to add and edit content themselves as their work continued.
Kris was looking for someone who would meet with the team, listen to their ideas, and help them decide how to move forward.
Working Through the Details Together
I rebuilt the Jenkins Foundation website in WordPress using Avada. Kris and I reviewed pages together and talked through the details that mattered to the people using them.
That included how page titles appeared alongside images, which topics belonged in the main navigation, and how the HomeSafe section could have an icon that fit with the rest of the site.
The homepage now offers direct paths to TravelSafe, HomeSafe, carbon monoxide information, outreach, Airy the Canary, and the foundation’s story. Visitors can also reach the hotel incident data and news from the main navigation.
Making Space for Personal Stories
One meaningful part of the website is the CO Experience Project, where people affected by carbon monoxide poisoning and their families share their experiences.
During the project, we discussed how to present those stories and related books. The CO Experience Project page now brings the stories together with a separate books and resources section.
These aren’t just pages on a website. They’re part of how the foundation helps people understand the human impact behind its safety message.
A Site the Foundation Can Keep Using
The redesign gave the Jenkins Foundation an updated online presence while keeping the content the team wanted to preserve. Kris says the new website is easy for them to manage and add to.
“We love that our website has a new, updated look while retaining all of our original content. It’s colorful, engaging, and easy for us to add to and manage.”

Kris also shared what it was like to work together:
“Appreciated your clear communication, friendliness, and attention to detail.”
