Google is changing Google Places | Google Local Business Center
Google has sent some local business owners emails with the heading, “Action Required: You have 3 weeks to save your Google Places Listing”.
This is NOT a spam email, but a legitimate email from Google. According to Jade Wang, Google Business Community Manager, these emails went out to thousands of Places account holders. Here is her explanation:
“We are making some changes to Google Places for Business and Google Maps so we can continue providing people with the best experience when they’re looking for local businesses. As part of this process, we’re asking business owners to review and confirm some of the information in their Google Places accounts so we can keep showing it to Google users. We know this will be a few extra steps for merchants, and we apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your time.
We have sent business owners affected by these changes an email entitled “Action Required: You have 3 weeks to save your Google Places Listing”.
If you did not get this email do NOT think you are safe. It might have gone to your spam folder or been blocked by your email program. Here is what you need to do:
- Sign into your Google Places account
- Verify that all your information is correct
- Make any necessary changes or additions
- Submit your changes
This will let Google know that you have an active account, and that you want top remain listed in both Google Places and Google Maps.
If you do not do this before Feb 21st, 2014 you rist your account being deleted. Then you will have to start with a new account and go through the verification process again – not fun.
